A New Year!
Apparently it’s now 2015! Did 2014 “fly-by”? For me, no, it was the longest year in living memory! Hopefully this is a sign I’m getting psychologically younger, rather than living in a state of ennui – that I’m winning the battle that the more antiquated amongst us seem to struggle with! Who knows, who cares. What was important was that the year 2014, in the immortal words of Sinatra “was a very good year”. It was full of new adventures, great times on the mountain, and probably most importantly of all, new friends from around the world to share these incredible experiences with.
I brought in the New Year on the small coral island of Gili Meno. I’ve been going to Meno for some years now, and consider it a second home. Trawangan has never really done it for me – too many people, too much noise, too much craziness! Meno is the opposite – reserved, understated, calm. There are more hotels and restaurants than when I first visited the island, but Meno has for the most part managed to retain its charm and tranquility. I tend to stay where I have always stayed – at Adeng-Adeng Bungalows, on the north of the island. Adeng-Adeng has a nice big garden, and an unpretentious “old-word” elegance that I love. The restaurant is also great – from the peanut penang curry to the barbeques on the beach, it never fails to delight! After catching up with friends, swimming and snorkelling amongst the coral, doing some yoga at mauMeno, and generally relaxing, I decided to head back to the mainland.
It’s rainy season now, but I’m hoping to do some exploring with a friend from Spain. Time to head back to Bayan!
